With a few days off randomly and the Grandparents watching the child we decided to hit the road with only a few things in mind: We were to head north perhaps to SF with the idea of maybe sleeping in the car? We knew we were to take Highway 1 up the whole coast. Neither of us have driven up the whole coast, funny i know because both of us have lived here for about 13 years and never taken a road trip up all of highway 1.
Big Sur is a frequent visit for us with it just being a few hours north. This time of year on a weekend it is over ran by tourist, so we didn't stop much but we did make some time for a small walk to a location I haven't taken Ashley to yet.
With every intent to make it to SF and take a photo at The Golden Gate Bridge we decided to get back on the road and head further north. Maybe we would actually make it, maybe we wouldn't. With Santa Cruz approaching we decided (I decided) we needed some food. Ashley had never spent time in SC so that was our next stop.
Ashley has some dietary restrictions ( gluten free, no sugar, things like that) and I have decided to try that out as well and I am 5 pounds of being back to my high school weight of 165, and I feel so much better. We yelped and found a place called Betty Burgers; gluten free buns fresh veggies deliver daily and that was the placed we picked to eat. Ashley mentioned that SC seemed cool and with her never spending any time there she was just as happy staying there as SF. So we were off to find perhaps a beach to camp on or a parking lot, or whatever.
About 7 years ago I had gone to the boardwalk in SC, so i mentioned that it might be fun and after finding a potential place to sleep we were on our way to check it out. I zone out around big groups of people I blur my eyes and look for shapes and colors. Trying to find little moments happening right in front of me that might not ever happen again. We came across a characture painting booth and decided "why not" we have taken many photographs together that I hold dear, why not have someone paint us. I mean look at us? We walked around the rest of the night seeing what we could find and just enjoying one another company. Around 10pm we decided to head back to the beach and of course it was closed. We had 3 options in front of us: 1. find a parking lot. 2. find a hotel, or 3. head home which on freeway 101 was only 3 hours. We enjoy the drive and our conversations as much as the places we go so we decided to head back home, get some sleep, have our own little photo shoot in the morning followed with hair and make up and a engagement photo session for a lovely couple that have decided to trust me with their wedding.
